In the last 3 years I have invested almost 4000 hours in ShootMania Storm, I am one of the leading english-speaking shoutcasters for this one esport title and I'm actively involved in teams that both programed a server controller and the game's biggest and highest payout tournament websites Paragon League. Which in the last 15 months has paid out a total of 24,562 €.
The main reason I have invested my time is purely on the fact this is the best fps I have ever played. It is easy to get into, easy to get good and one of the most community-involved games I have ever seen. For one thing programmers from the community if they learn ManiaScript (language designed by NADEO), they can create any gamemode they like with a huge amount of customisation if not only the gameplay but the UI and scoreboards as well. Release the title within the game and you can have a large part of the community to build maps for that gamemode. Games of those maps can be played on servers and replays can be recorded in which film-makers can make world-leading fragmovies that would blow your mind!
This one title under the Maniaplanet operating system is going under huge long-term development by NADEO and they continue to add more amazing customisable tools in which Maniaplanet is turning out to be a GameMaking system.
Shootmania is not doing really well in the US however it is pretty active in the EU scene. It amazes me that this game although small in playerbase has an active community that contributes a lot to the game. I am curious if this really happens to be one of those games that start off quiet but grow immensely in popularity over the coming years as development continues.
